The Power and the Word

How can you not be in error?   How can you avoid mistakes that will make you miserable?   In Matthew 22:29 Jesus told the Sadducees they were in error for two major reasons.   Mark’s gospel has Jesus asking them to think about why they were in error.   I think Jesus’ thoughts here are a great place to start when we try to consider why we don’t seem to have the answers.               Here’s the answer to all your questions.   You can only understand this world when you fully considered the Scriptures and the power of God.   The Sadducees had their “panties in a wad” so to speak because they did not believe in the resurrection, and they had a compelling reason for believing this way—marriage.   After all, if your spouse died and you married another, it’s not a problem until you get to the resurrection and how do you decide who your spouse is then?   It made perfect sense to them.   This was their age-old question to trap Jesus.   Don’t laugh.   This was serious to the

How Does He Do That?

I had the brilliant idea to push myself way beyond my usual crazy busy life in the month of August.   It is all for good reasons and things I need to get moved and done, but it creates a crazy schedule none the less.   I did have side effects from my crazy schedule.   As of right now, I can count three important tasks that I just dropped or forgot.   This is evidence that I definitely pushed myself too hard.               In the middle of it all, I am simply amazed by all the goodness of our Lord.   Not that I want to take advantage of His goodness.   It makes me want to take better care of myself in the future, but it makes me extremely grateful to God for His amazing love, care and protection.               I’m mindful that my entire life is all about His grace.   Everything comes down to grace.   I don’t deserve His tender care and protection in spite of the schedule I planned.   He gave it.   I could see God guiding, helping and protecting me all along the way.

True Love

It’s true that I have had a lot of heartache in my life.  When it comes to husbands I have been greatly blessed.  When I tell people that I don’t know why God gave me two true loves in one lifetime when so many women are longing for their first true love, I really mean it.  I don’t understand it.               Perhaps it stands out to me more because I talk to women all day long who wish they had a true love to walk through the pain of life.  They are great Christian women who aren’t willing to be with any man.  They aren’t dating like their culture tells them.  They only want a man who shares their love for God.  Perhaps they could get married if that is what they really wanted.  They could make it happen, but in their wise self tells them, don’t settle for a man who doesn’t treat you like God wants you to be treated.  And so, they remain without a life partner.  They know that true love exists and they will not settle for anything less.  In my observation the outst

Do You Really Want What You Pray For?

God is attentive to our prayers.  We can ask God for anything, anytime, anywhere.  We can even ask God without thinking much about Him.  On the other hand, He is always attentive to what we ask.  James 4 tells us that we fight and don’t get what we want because we don’t ask God for what we want, or we ask with the wrong motives.  When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures (James 4:3).               Prayer involves motives.  Prayer is deeper than we think.  Prayer is not meant to give us a chance to tell God what to do in the world, rather prayer is a privilege to become a part of what God is doing in the world.  When our prayers leave us without what we ask or fighting with other Christians, then we ought to become aware of our true intentions. You see this most clearly when James and John asked Jesus for something that sounded reasonable to them, especially in light of Jesus’ promises tha
